Obituary: Elese Bankston

Elese Bankston was born Jan. 28, 1926 in Tishomingo County Mississippi. Her parents were Paul and Lena Gray. She married Harry Mitchell Bankston Feb. 9, 1946. Around 1955, Elese and Mitch moved to Dallas with their three sons, Billy, Dale and David. To everyone’s surprise, in 1963 a daughter arrived, Tammy Sue. The family moved to Ruth Springs Estates on Cedar Creek Lake around 1972. They were faithful members of the Trinidad Church of Christ for many years. Mitch passed away in 1986 and Elese moved into the town of Trinidad. After a long life as a housewife, she worked at Gibson’s in Athens and continued her career at Walmart working at the service desk. In 2001, Elese moved to Oakwood Place Assisted Living in Athens and attended Eastern Hills Church of Christ. A few years later she was moved to Park Place Nursing Home. She resided there until her death on Aug. 6, 2012. She was 86 years old.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mitch; parents Paul and Lena Gray; brothers Jack Gray, and Paul Gray Jr.; and her great-grandson, Conner Mason Floyd.
She is survived by her children, Billy Bankston and wife, Barbara, Dale Bankston and wife, Sandi, David Bankston and wife, Brenda, Tammy Spencer and husband, Glenn. She is also survived her eight grandchildren, Kevin Bankston, Elesha Whitsell, Carrie Floyd, Nikki Settle, Brandy Fite, Candy Meyer, Bryan Spencer, and Sarah Spencer. She is also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Her surviving brothers are Eugene Gray, Allen Gray, J.T. Gray, and Fred Gray. Her surviving sisters are Lillian Boyd, Mary Word, Roma Smith, and Edna Lane.
Visitation for Elese was Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home, Malakoff. Graveside services were held 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 at the Mankin Cemetery with the Rev. Lavelle Layfield officiating.
