From Staff Reports
Twisted Branch Aussie Ranch in Caney City has joined other animal welfare organizations in the area that list their homeless pets on Petfinder.com. The site currently has more than 359,000 homeless pets listed, and it is updated continuously.
Twisted Branch is run by Karen and Mark Bowden.
“We rescue dogs from high kill animal shelters, from neglectful or abusive situations at private residences, or from good homes where people can no longer keep their dog for whatever reason,” said Karen. “We often take in very ill or fearful dogs, and rehabilitate them through love, good nutrition, and training, and then find loving and permanent adoptive homes to place them in.”
Karen said she and her husband started volunteering and fostering through another rescue last June, “and it just sort of took on a life of its own after that.”
The couple usually stay within the herding breeds and currently have 10 dogs, six that they are fostering.
“I do think this is what I am meant to do in life, and will at some point explore the possibility of expanding the rescue and doing this full time,” Karen said.
Twisted Branch is incorporated as a non-profit Texas corporation and is in the process of applying for a 501(c)3 nonprofit status. It is funded by donations.
The rescue isn’t only online at Petfinder.com. Like most organizations these days, they have a presence on Facebook, a lively group page named Twisted Branch Aussie Ranch.
