Tigers undefeated in district

The Malakoff Tigers are on fire, winning their first four district games to set up a showdown with also-undefeated Teague next Tuesday at home. Malakoff is 9-9 overall and 4-0 in District 14-2A.

The Tigers are off this Friday, Jan. 13.

In the past week, the Tigers have crushed, in order, Blooming Grove, Buffalo and Leon.

First, the Tigers dumped Blooming Grove 82-26. Malakoff jumped out to a 39-13 lead at the half.

The Tigers were led by senior Garrett Airheart with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Kameron Fletcher and Demontes Dowell each had 17 points; Dariuhn Jackson 11; Marcus Dowell 6; Keonte Ross and Carrington Manning 5 each; and Deric Greenhaw had 2.

The JV also beat the Lions, 49-4, and was led by Kendrick Hornbuckle with 12 points.

Malakoff then went on the road to Buffalo, downing the Bison 77-20. The Tigers jumped all over Buffalo in the first quarter, 20-4, and never looked back.

The Tigers were again led by Garrett Airheart with 20 points. Keonte Ross had 18 points; Dariuhn Jackson 17; Kameron Fletcher 9; Damontes Dowell 8; Carrington Manning and Marcus Dowell had 2 each.

In JV action against Buffalo, the Tigers won 39-29 and were led by Isreal Rivera with 14 points and Kendrick Hornbuckle with 9.

Tuesday, the Tigers continued their impressive roll by beating the Leon Cougars 64-51.

The game started close with Malakoff leading just 13-10 after the first quarter, but then the Tigers got hot and outscored Leon 24-10 in the second to take a 37-20 lead into halftime.

The Tigers were paced by Garrett Airheart with 17 points; Keonte Ross had 15; Damontes Dowell 13; Dariuhn Jackson 9; Kameron Fletcher 7; and Carrington Manning 3.

In JV action, Malakoff fell to Leon in a 24-23 heartbreaker. The Tigers were led by Israel Rivera with 16 points.
