From Staff Reports

January 2012 is School Board Recognition Month, a time when districts across the state show their appreciation for the pivotal role elected boards play in their local communities.

“Our school board members devote thousands of hours of their time to the success of the students of MISD. They all make many personal sacrifices tending to school board business. The members of this school board often face difficult decisions, choices and challenges. I am proud to be associated with such a wonderful group of individuals, whose only goal is to see that the students of this district get a quality education. My hope is that the citizens of this community will stop and say thank you to board members for voluntarily taking on the task of governing our local school district,” said Malakoff ISD Superintendent Randy Perry.

More than 7,200 locally elected school board members serve — without pay — in the 1,034 school districts located throughout the state.

“The people who make up these boards volunteer their time because they care about their communities and their schools. Each year, the TASB designates January as School Board Recognition Month to emphasize the importance of the service these dedicated men and women provide to the schools and students of Texas,” said James B. Crow, TASB executive director.
