The Malakoff Lady Tigers opened up the basketball season with a home win over Rice Tuesday night, 47-26.
The Lady Tigers jumped out on top early, outscoring Rice 17-7 in the first quarter, and never looked back.
Malakoff was on its game defensively, picking up 23 steals and 32 rebounds on the night.
Offensively, the Lady Tigers were paced by Courtney Dawson with 25 points and Molly LaRue with 10. Trese Jackson, DyEsha Brookins and Plandreika Jackson each added 4 apiece.
Malakoff will take to the road next, playing in a very competitive Slocum tournament.
The Lady Tigers will be home again next Tuesday against Sunnyvale. JV action starts at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity.
