This wasn’t the ending the Malakoff Tigers wanted. With a District 11-2A title on the line, the Tigers stumbled at home against Crockett Friday night, 36-0.
The loss on the final night of the regular season drops the Tigers’ record to 8-2, 4-1 for the year. Crockett improved to 9-1, 5-0.
The Tigers will be traveling to Groesbeck next Friday night to play Little River Academy at 7:30 p.m. in bi-district playoff action.
Friday night, the Bulldogs used a pair of big plays late in the second quarter to break open a scoreless game and take a 15-0 lead into the half. Crockett then scored three more times in the third quarter to put the game away.
Crockett was led by senior quarterback Andjuwan Smith, who ran for 125 yard and two touchdowns on 12 carries, and also threw a 62-yard touchdown pass.
Jacob Teague had 60 yards on 20 carries for the Tigers. Tate Taylor also had a nice night for Malakoff with 64 yards on four catches.
The Malakoff defense came up with two turnovers late in the game on fumble recoveries by Cesar Garcia and Garrett Airheart.
